First laid eyes on an aircraft carrier of any kind when I landed on the LEX. It had left San Diego’s port the day before I arrived so they flew me out in the two engine prop mail plane. The ship broke a screw that summer so it had to go into two week dry dock in San Francisco for a replacement. Tough duty. I still have the Power for Peace 1960-61 West Pac cruise book. Great pictures and great memories. I’m 70 now.
